REPORTING RELATIONSHIP: Director, Public Policy Communications
POSITION SCOPE:
Reporting to the Director, Public Policy Communications, the Manager, Public Policy Communications is accountable for CPC’s public policy and government relations communication activities and plans as well as executive profile building activities related to CPC’s reputation and public policy goals.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Identifies, analyzes, understands, and offers ideas to manage emerging policy, legislative and other issues that impact CPC’s reputation or business/government relations/policy communications plans
- Provides input on how the Government Relations & Public Policy Communications team should respond or take advantage of these opportunities or threats Ensures an appropriate understanding of CPC’s business and Public Policy/Government Relations/Communications strategies, to ensure the effective positioning of public policy communications initiatives
- Develops, implements and executes an effective executive profile building program
- Researches, consults, drafts, and delivers high-quality written materials for senior CPC personnel, including speeches, presentations, brochures, and other materials as required
SKILLS & EXPERIENCE:
- You have at least five (5) years of related experience and a demonstrated understanding of local, provincial and federal government structure, practice and public policy process as well as public policy environment, current events, and politics
- You have the capability to analyze issues and develop and execute strategic plans and tactics and to clearly express thoughts, ideas and concepts in writing, using correct and appropriate grammar, organization and structure
- Demonstrated ability to consult and work with senior executives in developing speeches and presentation materials, as well as engage with internal and external stakeholders with diplomacy and tact is essential
- You have superior analytical skills and attention to detail, the capability to build trust and personal credibility and have advanced influencing skills
EDUCATION:
- The successful candidate will posses post-secondary education (or equivalent experience), preferably in Political Science, Public Affairs, Public Relations, Communications, or Economics, ideally supplemented by government relations/public policy education or experience
